No matter how long you have been teaching, there is always the possibility that you will have a student in your class whose behavior is disruptive. Disruptive classroom behavior not only interferes with teaching and learning, but it can also have a negative impact on classroom civility and the overall enjoyment of the learning experience. What would happen if you shifted your focus from managing disruptive behavior to cultivating motivation and promoting learning? Using basic psychological concepts and principles of motivation, participants will explore a philosophy and practice of classroom management that utilizes effective strategies for minimizing and managing disruptive behavior and creating and sustaining safe and dynamic learning environments.
